Moisture acts as a catalyst for chemical reactions that break down the thin gold layer, leading to tarnishing, corrosion, and eventual exposure of the base metal. As gold plating is typically only a few microns thick, it is highly susceptible to damage from repeated moisture exposure. To clean, simply wipe with a soft, dry cotton or microfiber cloth to remove oils and dirt.
